BROADBAND

IS HERE!

Trigger Level Reached.....

Millom celebrates the arrival of Broadband

The 26th May 2004 was a big day for the people and businesses of Millom, who celebrated their success in getting high-speed Broadband internet access to the town. Millom was given a trigger level of 500 registrations of interest last July by BT, which meant that Millom had to prove that there was sufficient interest before BT would invest in Broadband technology for the town.

An extensive Millom 4 Broadband campaign was developed by the Millom & Area Market Town Programme Manager with the aim of raising awareness and encouraging Broadband registrations. The campaign target of 500 was reached in January 2004 and the Ready For Service date was announced by BT as the 26th May 2004.

The Millom & Haverigg Economic Development Group held a small celebration event which was also attended by Mr David Preston, BT Regional Manager – Lancashire, Cumbria & Greater Manchester, who joined in the celebrations.

Cllr Frank McPhillips, Mayor of Millom and Acting Chairman of the Millom & Haverigg Economic Development Group said of Millom’s Broadband success, “It is a great opportunity for Millom, the potential advantages for businesses and the people are immeasurable and now it is up to them to grasp this opportunity with both hands”.

Alick Nicholson, Director of Tornado Wire, commented on the importance of Broadband to businesses, “Broadband is really significant to Tornado Wire. It is not just a 'nice to have' improvement, but a genuine step forward, that will have very significant benefits. It unlocks the way to greatly improved company management and also improved customer care”.

If you are interested in signing up for high-speed Broadband internet access this can be done through your chosen Internet Service Provider.
